The Freedom Shop Collective

The Freedom Shop is a small anarchist collective based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. We have a small shop in Newtown where we sell books, pamphlets, zines, t-shirts, stickers and stuff covering subjects including anarchism, colonisation, gender issues, anti-racism, prisons, history and international struggles.

In addition to the shop, we publish our own pamphlets, reprint texts from elsewhere, screen print bags and t-shirts, hold public talks and film screenings and make cards and badges. In recent years, we’ve published 13 issues of our own ‘zine, ‘Aargh!’ and an regular e-newsletter. Another recent project is teaming up with Wellington ‘Zinefest designers to produce new editions of some of our favourite ‘zines.

Our collective was established 26 years ago, possibly making us Aotearoa’s longest running radical bookshop ever, and we plan to stick around until capitalism, patriarchy and all the other shit is replaced with something much nicer. Which will hopefully be quite soon as we are all getting really fed up.
