You know that friend that retains a bunch of seemingly useless information about irrelevant topics? You know that workmate who also heavily fixates on singular films, directors and actors? Well in my friend group that’s me. I’m Kelly, I work at a bookshop and an independent cinema in Tāmaki Makaurau. I recently figured it’s time to unload my quarterly (and sometimes lifelong) pop culture fixations in zine form! My zines don’t exactly follow a script. There’s going to be movie recommendations; from Japanese cinema to mainstream blockbusters. There will be thoughts on single films or film series; maybe Twilight was really speaking to me again this year and I had to immediately capture my retrospective. Whatever is on my mind at the time will most likely make it onto the page along with some hand drawn pictures around the topic. It feels like for years we have been asking the customer what they think of the film as they throw their half-finished popcorn in the bin, now I think It’s time to hear from the projectionist.
