Handmade by Katrina

community table

Hiya! I am Katrina! I run my small business, Handmade by Katrina in Wellington where I make tote bags, earrings, art prints, stickers and zines among other things.

My first zine was literally made in one night for uni and is about cohousing. The brief was to create something that tackles the New Zealand housing crisis. I used watercolour painting for my illustrations and told a short story about the benefits of living in a cohouse.

My second zine is very close to my heart. It's a recipe book of all my favourite Filipino food that my mum made when I was growing up as well as some that I have discovered along the way. Cooking these dishes have helped me to connect with my culture and share this with my friends. I wanted to get more people into cooking what I consider to be the best food!

My third zine is about the books that I've read and rated 5 stars on Goodreads. I love to read in my spare time and I’d love to pass on some recommendations to others.

What got me into zine making was attending the Wellington Zinefest and falling in love with the supportive community and honestly just being able to express myself and have a piece of myself in mini book form.
