You are invited to Marijke van Schaardenburg’s first solo exhibition and community space ‘We Make The Space Work’. Marijke is part of our volunteer committee and organiser of the Auckland Zinefest pop-ups at the Mid-Town Streetparty events of 2023!
‘We Make The Space Work’ is Marijke’s first solo exhibition culminating years of producing sapphic queer work. The exhibition features mixed media artworks, installed objects and an accompanying zine.
The exhibition works are boldly queer, reflecting on the intimacy of queer relationships, and discussing how we as queer people navigate and make the spaces around us ‘work’ when our identities often fall outside of the framework of society's expectations.
On the upper level above the exhibition is a small community space with a ‘community table’ selling queer zines and prints, as well as a reading area with a selection of queer zines, graphic novels and books. We hope you’ll be able to make it to the opening night, closing day, or swing by during opening hours to enjoy the space.
