Sina Leasuasu
Sina is a multi-disciplinary artist of Samoan and Māori descent living in London. She first started making zines back in 2018 when she felt the loneliness of living in a new country and yearned to do something creative. Her zines are mainly perzines based around themes of mental health, intersectional feminism and being of mixed heritage. She is part of two artistic collectives, Mixed Rage - a Birmingham based collective who’s work focuses on the experiences of being mixed race and Powersuit Collective - a feminist performance art group based in Oxford and London.
She has submitted to and produced zines for both of these collectives. Such as, “How to Write an Email Without Sounding Like a Bitch” a satirical look at how women often soften their digital language in the workplace. A zine that went with their feminist installation, “Numbers (For Girls)” at Offbeat Festival in Oxford 2021. Sometimes, her zines are silly and not that serious, like her vampzine for Buffy The Vampire The Slayer, a collaboration with her friend and fellow zinester, Hannah. The zine is a tongue in cheek breakdown about the characters they love (Giles! Swoon) and the characters they despise (Xander! Ew).
