kūkū

Kūkū (Dana) makes a variety of zines; from short stories, illustrative zines, short comic memoirs etc. Kūkū has a couple of zines that are about kupu Māori (Māori words) that fold out to become posters with her favourite whakataukī (proverbs) on them!

Kūkū started creating zines a couple of years ago, initially with her first te reo zine (Ngā Kupu Marīu) as a way to socialize with her zinester friends, while creating something on what she was passionate about (She had just started her te reo journey - now she is in full immersion and still loves it!). As a wahine Māori, Kūkū wanted to share her personal journey in te reo Māori in a way that wasn't designed to be educational, but approachable, aspirational, and show her love for her language. Kūkū is currently creating the third Ngā Kupu Marīu!
